UKA today announced that Britain’s track and field athletes will be given a unique opportunity to prepare for the London 2012 home Games with the laying of the Olympic track at the two UKA National Performance Centres at Lee Valley and Loughborough.

The London Marathon Charitable Trust has committed £220,000 to enable UKA, with the support of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and Loughborough University, to lay an exact replica of the Mondo FX track that will be in the Olympic Stadium in 2012.

The super fast track, which will be in place at the facilities from April, is currently installed in only ten stadia around the world with two of those in Beijing. UKA’s Lee Valley Athletics Centre Director Dan Pfaff said: “The two National Performance Centres will be the only training centres in the world with this track installed, giving our athletes considerable advantage. On Track Athletes competed at day 2 of the South of England Indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre. Caitlin Dock ran a personal best of 8.6s in her U17 Womens 60m heat to make her first ever semi-final. Abbie Purkis followed in her footsteps making the Semi-Final of the U15 Girls 60m event with a best time of 8.63s.

Stevie Walder competing the U17 Mens 60m ran a good race to finish in a time of 7.8s very close to his best of 7.78s.

On Track Athletics coached athletes competed at the South of England Indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Saturday 16th January.

Rachel Hanagan competing off the shortest run in the competition jumped a distance of 10.57m to win the Bronze medal and get her 2010 season off to a good start. In the U15 Girls 200m Abbie Purkis run a strong race in her heat to finish 3rd with 28.69s just missing out on a place in the Semi-Final. In the U17 womens 200m Caitlin Dock also ran a strong race to finish 5th in her heat with a time of 29.04s.

In the U17 Mens 200m Stevie Walder ran an indoor personal best of 25.52s to finish 4th in his heat missing out on the semi-final. Laura Hanagan competing in the U17 Womens Triple Jumped finished 5th with a jump of 9.72m and like her sister she was jumping off a very short run up.

The South of England Athetics Association Indoor Multi-event and Individual Competition for 300m – 800m and some jumps events took place on Saturday and Sunday at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre.
